Microsoft Edge 93 is now available in the Beta channel

Microsoft Edge is a new browser that’s part of Windows 10. As part of the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, it brings some new features and improves existing ones. Microsoft Edge is a modern browser that puts the web first, with a focus on speed, security and a clean design that puts the focus on the content.

Microsoft Edge, for those who don’t know, is the name of Microsoft’s next-generation browser. If you’re a regular reader of this blog (and a Microsoft developer), you’ll probably know that we’ve been working on it for a long time, so you’ll probably be aware that it’s already available in the Microsoft Store and in beta form.

With Microsoft Edge 93, we are expanding the scope of what Microsoft Edge can do to help you find and use the best apps and services. We’ve already collaborated with our partners to add extensions to Microsoft Edge, we’ve added new features to Microsoft Edge for the web, and we are continuing to work on improving the browser’s performance.

Edge 93 has been published to Insiders on the browser’s Beta channel. Builds from the beta channel may be utilized on a daily basis. Because the problems in such builds are all known and small, they are relatively stable. Version 93.0.961.11 is today’s release.

Insiders on the Microsoft Edge Beta channel will find a slew of new features and choices in version 93. The most significant modifications are shown below.

What’s new in Edge this time? Beta 93.0.961.11

  • Microsoft Edge’s Initial Preferences. With the inclusion of Initial Preferences in version 93, deploying Microsoft Edge to your organization will be a lot simpler.
  • Microsoft Edge’s IE mode will enable “nomerge” behavior. Microsoft Edge’s IE mode will allow nomerge starting in version 93. When a new browser window is opened from an IE mode application, it will be in a distinct session for the end user, similar to IE11’s nomerge behavior. To set sites that need to prohibit session sharing as “nomerge,” you’ll need to modify your site list. Behind the scenes, each Microsoft Edge window is locked into a different “nomerge” IE session from all other Microsoft Edge windows the first time an IE mode tab is visited within that window, if it is one of the designated “nomerge” sites, at least until the last IE mode tab is closed in that window. This is in line with prior behavior, in which users may start Internet Explorer with nomerge and Microsoft Edge without nomerge through different methods.
  • Groups of tabs. The ability to organize tabs into user-defined groups allows you to locate, switch, and manage tabs more efficiently across different workstreams. Beginning with Microsoft Edge version 93, we’re turning on tab grouping to allow this.
  • When using Vertical Tabs, hide the title bar. Hide the browser’s title bar when in Vertical Tabs to reclaim a few more pixels. Starting with Microsoft Edge version 93, you may go to edge:/settings/appearance and choose the option to conceal the title bar when in Vertical Tab mode under the Customize Toolbar section.
  • From the hover toolbar, choose Video Picture in Picture (PiP). Picture in Picture (PiP) option will be much simpler to use starting with Edge version 93. When you hover your mouse over a compatible video, a toolbar appears, allowing you to watch it in a PiP window. Please note that this feature is only accessible on macOS for Microsoft Edge users. Please return in the near future as we continue to roll out to Windows users.
  • 3DES is no longer used in TLS. The TLS RSA WITH 3DES EDE CBC SHA cipher suite will be deprecated starting with Edge v93. This shift is taking place in the Chromium project, which is the foundation for Microsoft Edge. Go to the Chrome Platform Status entry for additional information. In addition, the TripleDESEnabled policy will be available in Edge v93 to enable situations that need compatibility with old servers. In Edge v95, this compatibility policy will become outdated and cease functioning. Before then, make sure all impacted servers are up to date.

In addition, there are 22 new group policies. The policies that are the most intriguing are
